TLC READING PROGRAM REMINDER:
Here is a reminder of the TLC reading program particulars:

TLC encourages children to become strong avid readers. We have a long established reading program that you can find
detailed in your parent/student handbook. Our reading program includes, but does not completely consist of the Pizza Hut
"Book It" incentive program. This is a program that encourages children to read by rewarding them with a "Free Personal
Pan Pizza" certificate at the end of the month when a child has read 30 minutes a day, or a total of at least 480 minutes
monthly. The "Book It" program runs from October to March.

In addition, a student can qualify for TLC reading clubs and awards by doing the following:
K-2nd grade can qualify on a monthly basis for the "White Tiger Club" by reading at least 600 minutes.
3rd/4th grade qualify for the "Gold Team" by reading at least 700 minuets a month.
5th - 8th grade qualify for the "Gold Team" by logging at least 800 minutes monthly.
To be eligible for the end of the year Book It award, students must read the yearly minimum amount for the Club goal that
corresponds to their grade:
White Tiger Club yearly goal 4200 mins.
3/4th Gold Club yearly goal 4900 mins.
5th-8th yearly goal 5600 mins. (Calendar or record sheet must include book titles and author)
In order to qualify for the end of the year award the students must also return a calendar on time every month from September
through March with at least 480 mins. read and recorded. Students are not required to read the White Tiger and Gold Club
goals every month to qualify for year end medal, just the 480 min. requirement. Some months may be higher than others. As
long as the student reads a total of 5600 minuets during the year and turns in a calendar every month, he or she will receive a
medal on awards nightHere is what you need to do if you would like your students to qualify for the monthly or year end Book
It awards.
1. Write the number of minutes read each day. This can be done on a calendar or on a simple list you keep as a record.
2. Write the monthly total of minutes at the end of the month. (5th-8th are required to add titles and authors)
3. A parent/guardian must sign the calendar or record to verify its correctness.
4. Return the calendar to your classroom teacher by the due date; the first Monday of every month (grace period thru the week,
until Thursday)

Mrs. Yapp

NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
On January 18, 2011 there was an ugly incident in our parking area during student pick-up between 3:45 and 4:00 pm. I need
all our parents to realize that our actions, demeanors, and behaviors are fully on display every day.  You are your children’s
role models every day.  When things do not go our way and adults misbehave, our children quickly pick up these behaviors.
Parents are children’s first and always teacher, and your choices not only affect your child or children but others that may see or hear
what you are doing or saying. The use of foul language is a bad habit that is not easily controlled, but can be controlled.
The goal of Triumphant Learning Center is to create future leaders with positive character for our world. Please understand
that our adult actions, demeanors, and behaviors either support or undermine such leadership character. Our teachers, staff,
and parents must act in a united front, becoming the strong foundation for our world’s future, or we are going to lose our
future.         -Mrs. Dutt

KITCHEN REMINDER:
Parents, please remember the food items kept in the kitchen are there for kids who forget their lunch. Everyone is
responsible for bringing their own lunch. Our supplies seem to go down so quickly it appears some students are taking
advantage of these reserves. We really appreciate those parents who donate food as we always need it. But let us all remind
our children to partake only if needed and teach them to donate back what the eat. Thanks

Welcome Back Tigers

ATTENTION PARENTS:
In your post-holiday decluttering, would you please consider donating to TLC any books in *excellent* condition for the Paperback Swap?  TLC parent Jennifer Griffith posts the books and then trades for books our school library
needs.  If you have donations, bring them to the TLC library.  Thank you!

Also, the computer lab is missing nearly 20 pair of "ear buds".  We are hoping that the students have just carried them back to their desks by accident so as not to have to share.  Please mention to your students that these ear phones need to be returned to and left in the computer lab.  Thank you.

Our strings program is back in full swing.  If you missed yesterday, you can still jump in.  Beginners go Monday at 7:30am.  You can catch Mr. Hughes in the cafeteria any morning to get more information.  This has always been a great program at TLC and we are so happy to have Mr. Hughes back this semester!  Take advantage of this opportunity!

Please consider making a tax credit donation to TCL before the end of the year.  This is a dollar for dollar credit to you.  You don't have to give the maximun amount, any smaller amount is also appreciated by us, and credited to you!  You will be glad next year that you took advantage of this!  And so will TLC!

In 2002, the Arizona State Legislature passed Arizona Tax Law ARS 43-1089.01 providing tax credits to taxpayers contributing to public and private K-12 schools. This tax law allows single taxpayers or heads of household to claim a $200 credit (maximum credit allowed) or married taxpayers filing jointly a $400 credit on their state income taxes when they make a contribution to a K-12 public or charter school. The contribution must be for extra curricular activities or character education programs. The tax credit can only to be used to reduce an individual’s tax liability and refunds are not provided to individuals without a tax liability.
