The TLC Library needs more AR books for all grades. If you have any books just “collecting dust” on your bookshelves, please consider donating them! Bashas’ Fund Raising Program
It is now time for Bashas’ Shop & Give program which benefits TLC. The first time you shop at Bashas’ with your Thank You card after September 1, ask the cashier to enter Triumphant Learning Center’s number - 28662. (Bashas’ should also have our number posted at the registers.) You only have to enter the code once, and each time you use your Thank You card at any Bashas’ store 1% of your purchases will be donated to TLC. The program runs from September 1 to April 30.
Family & Friend
If you have family and friends who live outside Safford and shop at their local Bashas’ stores, they can also participate. They simply ask the cashier to enter TLC’s number - 28662. The code only needs to be entered once at any Bashas’ store, and it will work at all Bashas’ stores.
NOTE: If you participated in the program last year, you must ask the cashier to enter TLC’s number again this year.
Bashas’ Update
You can also link your card online at www.bashasshopandgive.com.
Simply type in your Bashas’ Thank You Card number. The next page will ask for your charity, which is TLC #28662. Then you will be asked to fill in your name, phone number, etc. That is it and you are ready to shop!
ARIZONA TAX CREDIT - It is not to early to donate!
We typically receive a bulk of the Arizona Tax Credit donations in December. However, sometimes this is a difficult time of year for many families with Christmas and other expenses. To make donating easier, we have set up a monthly payment plan of only $33 per month from January through December. This adds up to almost $400* for the year. If you would like to donate monthly, simply stop by the school office anytime during the month to drop off your donation. You will receive a receipt for your tax records.
*NOTE: Donations are a maximum of $200 for single or head of household and $400 for couples filing a joint tax return.
Pizza Hut Book It Program
Students in all grades are encouraged to participate in the Book It Reading Program. It should be a fun and enjoyable time to read a book, magazine, Bible, etc. The purposes are to establish a life long reading habit and a joy of reading. Book It reading is extremely important; therefore, please encourage your children and speak about it very positively.
Students (with parental help) will record their minutes on the monthly calendar or other paper if the calendar is lost. The time is totaled and a parent must sign the calendar. Only reading done at home (not during class time) should be recorded, and all of the recording should be done at home.
End of the Year Awards
Triumphant Learning Center runs an expanded version of Pizza Hut’s Book It Program. All TLC students have the opportunity to meet higher reading goals. By doing so, the students can earn special medals, which are given at Awards Night in May. These requirements are listed in the box below.
To be eligible for the end of the year Book It awards, students must read the yearly minimum amount for the White Tiger Club and Gold Teams. (See Below) They must also return a calendar on time every month from September through March with at least 480 minutes read and recorded per month. If any student reads less than 480 minutes or does not return a calendar one month, he/she will not receive a medal at the end of the year.
NOTE:
Students are not required to read the monthly goal every month to qualify for the end of the year medals, but they must read at least 480 minutes each month. For example, a 6th grade student reads 480 minutes in September, 1150 minutes in October, and 1210 minutes in December. As long as the student reads a total of 5600 minutes during the year and turns in a calendar every month, he or she will receive a Gold Medal on Awards Night.
Accelerated Reading Program
TLC is expanding the Accelerated Reading Program this school year. Last year, students only had access to a limited number of AR quizzes. This year, students will have access to all AR quizzes because TLC has the online version. Of course, TLC does not have all the corresponding books for the quizzes, but most of the books in the TLC Library and classroom libraries have been tagged for AR. Students may also check out books from the local public libraries, and our families may even have some AR books at home.
To find out if a book has a corresponding AR quiz, just log on to www.arbookfind.com. Type the name of the book into the search box. If it is an AR book, it will show you the reading level, points, and a brief description. There are also two search features if you want to find book titles in a particular reading range.
Book Swapping
Do you have books at home you wish to trade for different ones or AR books? Try Paperbackswap! It is wonderful book trading web site. Just log onto www.paperbackswap.com and join for FREE. There are also several search engines to find specific titles or search your favorite genres. It is a great, yet inexpensive option to acquire more books.
If you think you might like to join Paper Back Swap, you can help TLC at the same time. Just click the PaperBackSwap logo below. When you join, TLC will get one free book!
